ABWA

ABWA Work.

Creating change within our own school community through student-led mental health awareness, activities and collaboration.

OUR APPROACH

Building change within our own community.

At ABWA, we work closely with the Pastoral Care Team to identify relevant mental health topics across different age groups and create sessions that respond to students' needs. From junior school activities to senior school discussions, we adapt our approach through interactive exercises, reflection and age-appropriate conversations. Working within our own school has allowed us to build continuity, understand the community closely and create meaningful opportunities for students to engage with mental wellbeing.

Gratitude Jars, Grades 1–5

For Grades 1–5 at Aditya Birla World Academy, we introduced Gratitude Jars to encourage students to recognise and reflect on the positive parts of their everyday lives. Students wrote down things they were grateful for and added them to their jars, turning gratitude into a simple and engaging activity. By introducing this practice at a young age, the session helped students appreciate what they have while encouraging reflection, positivity and emotional wellbeing.

Happiness Day Assembly

In March, we celebrated Happiness Week at ABWA with a session on the hormones linked to positive emotions and simple ways students could activate them throughout their day. We then extended the initiative through our Instagram profile with a daily happiness challenge, where each day featured a small activity designed to encourage positive habits and wellbeing. Over 50 students participated, and their responses were collated and shared on our Instagram, helping the initiative continue beyond the assembly itself.

Passion Project Session

We conducted a session with Grade 9 students on how to develop a meaningful passion project around something they genuinely care about. We spoke about identifying an interest, turning it into a clear idea, planning achievable steps and finding ways to create impact beyond themselves. Through examples and discussion, we encouraged students to see passion projects not just as personal interests, but as opportunities to take initiative, solve problems and contribute to their wider community.

World Mental Health Day

For World Mental Health Day, we explored the Japanese concept of Kintsugi, which celebrates imperfections rather than hiding them. Students created collaborative murals using irregularly cut shapes connected with gold tape, reflecting how flaws and differences can become part of something meaningful. Through the activity, we encouraged students to recognise that imperfections are a natural part of every experience and to embrace their individuality with greater confidence and self-acceptance.
